Hana Zen Sushi Bar - Pier 39

Overpriced and under portioned. Sushi was high quality and flavors were very clean. Did NOT look like the picture on the menu. If price isnt an issue, I would recommend this place for its scenery and location. I'd love to give 4 stars but I left hungry after dinner for 2 @ $75.

I went with my wife and 3 kids. So that we could still get happy hour food deals the bar tender sat us nearby and served as our waitress.She was courteous and helpful. The food was so good my kids finished everything except the fries and usually it's the opposite.They had the best rainbow roll I have ever eaten as well. Plus, the view of Alcatraz was awesome!

Terrible service. We stopped by for a quick bite, and ended up staying for 2 hours as we painstakingly waited for each dish we ordered to come out one by one every 20-30mins. There were only about 3 tables in the entire restaurant, so they weren't very busy. The waitress didn't seem to care much about her job and then had the audacity to add a 20% autogratuity on our bill. Food was okay, but I'd save your time and money and go elsewhere on the Pier.

Garlic Noodles with chicken is so awesome! I have been craving for it day after I had it at Hana zen! I also had Creme Brûlée for dessert it was so good!!!!! Not pricey for a place with the best view of Alcatraz.

Very tasty Japanese food

We stopped for lunch, not very busy but the view was AmaZIng! Order a few rolls and some sides. Rolls were pretty good, about the price expected for a SF tourist place. Wasabi wasnt strong. The pickled ginger was fresh and the best I've tasted in a while. The sides- misi soup was pretty good. Garlic noodles were strong on the garlic, a bit heavy in general.. again the view was nice

5 star for the food + breathtaking view. Definitely will come back on this restaurant!

Quiet, ambient atsmodpthere. located all the way at the end of pier 39. If you have the city pass go to information cneter to pick up your coupons, one of which is for Hana Zen. I got the soft shell crab salad. The dressing was light . Sushi was ok. Drinks were strong 👌. Service was great !

Often eat here while walking around. Good place, wide variety. Tasty stone steak. Interesting to cook))). $120 for 4.

Mexican bartender was rude and angry, the service was slow and unprofessional: didn't even bring me and my friend plates. The view is amazing but not recommend this spot because it wastes a lot of time. When he brought my miso soup after a 20 minute wait (which is already strange), it was less than half full in the bowl and when I asked to add some more to it because it cannot be served like this, that's how he brought it back to me, almost threw it on the table, and angrily commented "now is it enough full for you?"

Amazing food and views.

I ordered the Teriyaki chicken meal and i must say it was really delicious. And we got a free ice cream for my little one. yay! Very good service and server was very accomodating. The owner of the restaurant was very hospitable and polite. Would definitely want to come back for more. thumbs up!

This place has absolutely awful service! If I could give a 0 I would 100%. My friends and I went and they threatened to call security on us bc we wanted to split checks. This place is a disgrace to San Fransisco but all Japanese cuisine. This is insanity, the people have eye rolling issues and the tuna taste like dirt. And the fried rice is white rice, egg, and pepper. DO NOT GO HERE.

This place was delicious! We try to eat as healthy as possible and they have a ton of healthy choices. They have one of the best veggie wraps I have ever had! If I'm ever back in the area from Wisconsin I will be back keep up the good work!

Although the food was delicious, the service was terrible. We waited a long time to have our order taken, to receive our food, and to get the check. It seemed like the waitress was busy talking to people at the bar- and little attention was given to guests on the restaurant floor. Ultimately the food and the view were worth the wait, but the experience could have been much better.

Never come here. This terrible food is not like sushi.

Very expensive for what you get as you can see from my pictures my total bill was over $64.00 for 12 pieces of sushi and 2 drinks. The waiter was not very helpful and actually tried to dismiss us a few times, then the kicker was when we got the Bill and an 18% gratuity was already added. I feel almost $10 for a substandard meal and very poor service was not deserved or warranted.

Such a great place to go have dinner while enjoying the view. The food was great and so was the service. The price is not too bad considering they are right on Pier 39. It was very quiet when we went which was a plus! Atmosphere was great.

Good view and decent food. We only stopped by for a quick bite. The sushi roll we had was decent, but nothing to write home about.Service was good by the table staff, however the maître d' was not able to accommodate our seating request despite free tables - which was slightly off-putting.Overall the experience was good; the best of it being the view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I hate leaving such bad reviews but this place was disappointing.Waitress was nice and hard working, going between bar tending and serving tables. If you want food in a timely matter, order food cooked in the kitchen. It took about 30 to 40 minutes to get my sushi rolls and the four other people with me all got our food at different times.The food is medeocre at best, I've tasted better come pre-packaged at a grocery store.

We are from out of town, looking for a great experience in Pier 39. The only thing going for this place is the view. Other than that, everything else was terrible: service and food. It took about 20 minutes after we were seated before our server came to take our orders. Few minutes after taking our order the server came back saying that the Asian Chicken for the Hot Lava Rock is no longer available, then he walked away. Didn't wait for our questions. Didn't ask for our alternative order. He just rudely walked away. He eventually came back a few minutes later and we ordered chicken teriyaki for the kids and my husband. I ordered Spicy Tuna Roll and Salmon Roll. Kids and hubby got their Chicken Teriyaki quick but my roll came 30 minutes after everyone had already finished their food. Mind you, my kids eat slow. The rolls were T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E too. It wasn't even worth the way. I am never coming back here.

1 star only because the food was decent and the view is great. Terrible service. Waited for 25 minutes to get water and I had to stop a passing server to ask for it. Once we ordered we got most of our food then had to wait an HOUR for ONE sushi roll and the place wasn't even full of customers. Others around us had the same problem and eventually got up and let because they were tired of waiting. My friend wanted to order a Bento box but the waitress told him that they only served them during lunch which ended 20 minutes prior, during the time that we had been waiting without receiving any service whatsoever!!

Expected tourist trap but pleasantly surprised. The place was empty when we came in around 2pm on a Sunday, which almost made us go elsewhere. I'm glad we didn't because the food was good, service friendly, and great views of the bay. Portions were not large and it was a bit on the expensive side. We didn't try sushi based on low expectations. Garlic noodle, salmon, and ahi salad were good. Would actually go back.

My husband and I stumbled across this gem yesterday. Their sushi was fresh - I highly recommend the salmon belly and their homemade pickled ginger.

They're really nice. We came in for Fleet Week and had an amazing server. She had brown hair and a long ponytail. She was sweet. The host that sat us down got us a good table with a nice view too. This restaurant pretty much has great views at every corner no matter where you sit. They were nice enough to let me and my boyfriend sit and watch the show after our meal. We ordered Tokyo bento boxes for lunch which were weirdly not shown on the menu, but they have the menu options on a sign outside. Overall, meal was good and we were full after eating a calamari appetizer + our bento boxes.

I thought they were a little over priced but the view and my company was worth it.

I waited 45 minutes to be seated. They had over 6 tables open and left because no one came to check on us, nor at least to say,"Sorry for the wait, someone will be with you shortly"

Oh gosh, I would Never!! go to the place reviewed like this one. We deserve good service and food. They don’t care because they pretend to be always busy in the middle of tourist places. Well, good luck, but I’m out. Not so hard to walk another couple hundred yards to the Nice place. Always read previous reviews!!!

Best thing about this place was the views. The sushi was just ok. The prices were expensive for the quality but if you want Japanese and are here go for it. Just expect to pay for it. There was an 18% service charge with our group. With beer and sake figure at least $30 for lunch.

My granddaughter loves this place. Real fatty tuna sushi made her day!

We made the mistake of not looking at reviews. We should have. My avocado and salmon sushi has avocado skin in 4 pieces. The kids teriyaki chicken had lots of skin and other questionable pieces. I asked for my two kids and spouse to be put on one ticket and our tickets were all botched. The food came out at different times. We were all done by the time my daughter and my mothers food came out. She asked for fried rice and got steamed. Just not great for being in a city that raises the bar where food is concerned.

The sushi was quite good here, and the views are nice around the edge. The service was very friendly but slow. Nothing really pushed this over the edge to make it 5 stars.

We stopped for a quick bite, but the white girl at the bar was extremely rude! she then sat us down, and then the waitresses and waiters just walk around ignoring us. There were only few tables, we got up and left! Train your staffs better!

Good food, friendly staff. Was seated in a timely manner, our server helped us very quickly, and our food came out super fast. The views were awesome, and the prices were pretty fair for being located on pier 39

I travel to San Fran frequently and always look forward to going to Hana Zen. I have severe food allergies and the staff always makes every effort to accommodate and make me feel comfortable. It's not the fanciest place, but it's well worth it. And the view is fantastic!

To start, they were doing inventory and wouldn’t allow us to order alcoholic beverages which normally doesn’t matter but it was our anniversary vacation. Just a bummer. Next- We are huge sushi lovers. This had to have been the worst experience we have had. We ordered several different types of sushi including otoro sushi. The otoro was inedible, absolutely never should have been served. This is how people get sick from sushi! It was brown, smelled and looked awful!
